The Help

Holiday Comedy: Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer, who were both nominated for Academy Awards for their sterling supporting performances in The Help (above; Spencer won), will reteam in a new holiday comedy. Peter Chiarelli (The Proposal) will write the screenplay, based on a treatment by Chastain and Kelly Carmichael; the story follows two women who are “fighting the elements to make it home for Christmas.” [Variety]

 

Bad Boys II

Bad Boys: The next installment in the Bad Boys film franchise has been in development for years, but in the meantime, a small-screen spin-off is moving forward. NBC has ordered a pilot episode for a series that will revolve around DEA Agent Syd Burnett, who first appeared in Bad Boys II (above). Gabrielle Union will reprise the role, now imagined as a Los Angeles police detective who is getting “a fresh start.” [The Wrap]

 

All the Money in the World

Spontaneous: Charlie Plummer (All the Money in the World, above) is in final negotiations to star in the sci-fi fantasy Spontaneous opposite Katherine Langford (Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why). It’s based on a novel by Aaron Starmer that explores what happens after young people start exploding for no apparent reason. [Variety]

Black Panther Video: In a new video, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan talk about their characters and what makes them distinctive. The superpowered adventure will open in theaters on February 16. [Movieclips]
